Ever since the advent of staircases, people have probably been building things like this to utilise the awkward space underneath them. These built in cupboards and drawers use the maximum depth under the stairs to increase storage space. The handle detail cut from the top of the triangular doors helps keep the overall look of the cabinets simple.
