Staircase
Blackheath, London. 2009
American white oak and blackened steel

In collaboration with Richard Watkins, who did the beautiful steelwork for this commission, we were asked to fabricate a staircase conceived by my client and her architect. It was designed in a somewhat unorthodox way with steel stringers along the walls and an oak post, supporting thick oak treads and risers. This meant visually the steps from above looked great with various complex angles of wood meeting and from underneath the metalwork was left exposed to enjoy the nuts and bolts of the construction.
