Fire rated wall and sliding doors
Painted Ash hardwood, Fire rated plywood, plasterboard, Georgian wired glass, 2019
A basement conversion where the removal of internal walls meant the stairwell needed to comply with fire regulations. I made a partition wall and a set of sliding fire doors which complied with building regulations using solid Ash and Georgian wired glazed panels. The main door to the stairs is self closing and held on a magnetic catch which releases automatically when the smoke alarm is triggered and the door under the stairs leads to a small storage area. The wall paneling has a nice horizontal detail which matches that of the rails of the doors and the fixed glazed panels along the top let through light to the stairwell as well as a view into the room as you traverse the stairs.
